🚀 Project Overview

EcoRanger is a mobile learning app designed to teach children environmental science through engaging, game-based activities using real-time NASA data. It was created as part of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2024, the world’s largest global hackathon. Out of thousands of teams worldwide, EcoRanger was selected as a Global Finalist—an honor that recognizes innovation, impact, and alignment with NASA’s open science mission.

🌍 Problem Statement

Children often lack access to interactive and scientific learning tools about climate change, pollution, and environmental sustainability. Traditional methods are either too complex or unengaging for younger audiences. The challenge was to develop a fun, educational solution that bridges this gap using NASA’s open data.

🎯 Our Mission

We set out with one goal:

“To inspire the next generation to protect our planet by making environmental education accessible, exciting, and rooted in real science.”

📱 Key Features

  • 🔭 NASA Data Integration: Real-time data on air pollution, sea levels, and temperature from NASA Earth science APIs.

  • 🎮 Gamified Learning Modules: Fun games like trash-sorting, climate quizzes, and nature puzzles that teach kids about environmental protection.

  • 🧠 Level-Based Progression: Children unlock levels as they learn, encouraging continued exploration.

  • 🌐 Offline Mode (Planned): Local content caching for low-internet areas.

  • 👦🏽 Child-Friendly UI: Intuitive and colorful design tailored for ages 8–13.

👨‍💼 My Contributions

As the Team Leader and Lead Developer, I was responsible for:

  • Designing the full UI/UX wireframes in Figma

  • Coordinating team members (design, content, development)

  • Managing the submission
